Amid goaltending controversy, Maple Leafs give start to James Reimer

James Reimer will be the next goalie in the firing line for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Coach Ron Wilson named Reimer the starter for Thursday night’s game against the San Jose Sharks at Air Canada Centre.

Goaltending has been a source of controversy around the struggling Leafs.

General manager Brian Burke added fuel to the fire Wednesday by telling a Toronto radio station he was looking at adding a goaltender before Monday’s trade deadline.

Burke told TSN Radio 1050 that if the Leafs were to go after a goalie, “it would be a guy who could help us right now.”

Reimer and Jonas Gustavsson have been splitting starts during the Leafs recent 1-5-1 run.
