Library workers’ union to file ‘no-board’ report

TORONTO, Ont. – It appears the Ministry of Labour may be asked to approve another ‘no-board’ report in a city labour dispute.
The union representing Toronto’s library workers told 680News its local president is filing the report, Friday, after declaring an impasse in talks with the city.
Maureen O’Reilly, president of the Toronto Public Library Workers Union, said she hopes the threat of job action will jumpstart talks.
“Get to our bargaining table, lets begin a real dialogue and lets get this job done. Lets get a negotiated collective agreement,” said O’Reilly. “It is our intention to keep bargaining. The next scheduled date is March 1st with the conciliator. Our intention it to continue to negotiate a collective agreement.”
If the Labour Ministry accepts the report, a strike or lockout could occur 17 days later.
A ‘no-board’ report was issued in the city’s dispute with its outside workers. That dispute was settled at the bargaining table.
Library workers recently voted 91 per cent in favour of strike action.
