Disabled cruise ship to arrive in Seychelles Thursday

An Italian cruise ship that became disabled in the Indian Ocean will arrive in the Seychelles a day later than expected, CNN reports.
The Costa Allegra lost power after an engine room fire Monday, and a fishing boat is now towing it to the islands’ main port on Mahe. Costa Cruises said the original docking site, Desroches, could not logistically handle the ship’s passengers.
More than 1,000 people, including 636 passengers and 413 crew, are on the Allegra. Most passengers are European, but 14 are from Canada and eight from the United States.
Costa said it was providing passengers with cold food and bringing in fresh bread by helicopter. A supply of mineral water was available for washing.
The Allegra is part of the same fleet as the Costa Concordia, which ran aground off the Italian coast last month killing at least 25 people. Seven are still missing and presumed dead.
Costa Crociere S.p.A., owned by Carnival Corp., operates both vessels.
