UFC CENTRAL: Sorting out the flyweight fiasco

This week on UFC Central, hosted by “Showdown” Joe Ferraro, the Ultimate Fighting Championship put on their 200th show this week as the organization returned to Sydney, Australia just days after UFC 144 in Japan.

We recap the entire fight card including the main event where Martin Kampmann shocked many with a come from behind submission of Thiago Alves late in the final round. We ask what’s next for both fighters? Does the win move Kampmann right into title contention?

Sydney also marked the debut of the 125 pound flyweight division, featuring two semi-final fights with the winners squaring off for the first ever flyweight title later this year, or at least that was what was supposed to happen. An error by the athletic commission during the scoring of the Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson fight has forced a rematch. Find out why this occurred and what it means for Joseph Benavidez who was victorious in the 2nd semi-final.

But those were just three of eleven fights on the night, we’ve got all the must see moments from every fight on the card including the debut of Canadian Nick Penner.

It was just over a week ago that Saitama played host to UFC 144 where a controversial decision once again made headlines. So was the judge’s decision in favour of Ben Henderson over Frankie Edgar the right call? Showdown Joe breaks down the full fight round by round and reveals who he thought won and why.

UFC 144 also marked one of the sport’s most impressive comebacks when Tim Boetsch came back to defeat Yushin Okami with a third round TKO. In honour of his come from behind performance, along with Matin Kampmann’s in Australia, we countdown the top five UFC comebacks from the past few years. Whose performance was good enough for number 1?

That plus all the latest mixed martial arts headlines including all the results from Strikeforce: Tate vs Rousey from Columbus, Ohio.

And don’t forget that the Ultimate Fighter 15 featuring coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber debuts this Friday on FX Canada where, for the first time ever, all fights will be live! Each episode will replay later on Sportsnet in all regions.
