Ovechkin plays goalie: watch

“Yeah, Capitals signed new goalie… for 10 minutes,” quipped Alex Ovechkin after he yanked on a goaltender’s mask, slipped on the blocker and glove and took a shift between the pipes.
Of course, No. 8 wasn’t facing game-calibre blasts from the slot. He was making 16-year-old Sam Jacobson’s wish come true.
Fulfilling a dream for Jacobson through the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Ovechkin and Washington Capitals defencemen Mike Green and Karl Alzner played a game of two-on-two with Sam and his 13-year-old brother, Jack, after practice on Wednesday.
Sam, who plays on his high school hockey squad in Boise, Idaho, is undergoing treatment for T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma, a form of cancer that endangers his immune system.
According to CSNWashington.com, Sam wanted to see a Capitals game more than going on a golf vacation or visiting Disney World. Not only did the Capitals invite Sam and his family to a game, but the Jacobsons spent four days in Washington, the kids got to play shinny with a few Caps stars, and Ovechkin gave Sam an autographed stick.
“We’re just honoured he wanted to come hang with us,” Green told the website. “We had fun out there. It was good. We were smiling just as much as he was.”
Said Brian Jacobson, Sam’s father, “We’re so thankful that when a kid needs something or has an opportunity to do something, a lot of people step up to the plate to make it happen.”
