Toronto city councillors release 2011 expense reports

The final 2011 expense reports for Toronto city councillors have been released and just like last year, Doug Ford spent $0.

Each councillor is allowed $30,000 for office expenses during the fiscal year, plus a staffing budget of $211,447.60.

The $30,000 is a decrease from the 2010 limit of $50,445.

Scarborough Centre Coun. Glenn De Baeremaeker appears to have exceeded the limit, dropping $31,077.34 on office supplies.

Four other councillors came close – but did not exceed – the limit:

  • York West Coun. Anthony Perruzza spent $29,791.16
  • St. Paul’s Coun. Joe Mihevc spent $29,685.00
  • Scarborough Southwest Coun. Gary Crawford spent $29,590.30
  • Scarborough East Coun. Ron Moeser spent $29,567.48

Expense can include office equipment and supplies, transportation, printing and postage, telecom services, office rent, advertising and promotion, travel and other expenses.

The only two councillors who came close to matching Ford’s frugality are Etobicoke Centre Coun. Doug Holyday, who spent $2,717.30; and York South-Weston Coun. Frances Nunziata, who spent $4,311.15.

Ford reported that he spent $2,016.68 of his own money in 2011.

Mayor Rob Ford spent $44,995.30. The mayor’s office was approved by council to have an overall annual budget of $2,011,056.95 in 2011, which includes the staffing budget. Ford reported he also spent $4,000 of his own money on office expenses.

The Ford brothers are only two members of city council who reported spending personal funds.
