Welcome to Daylight Saving Time

TORONTO, Ont. – Did you remember to set your clock ahead before you went to bed Saturday night?

Most of Canada switched to daylight saving time at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, which means we all lost an hour of sleep while gaining an extra hour of sunlight.

Experts say the shift in time can be punishing to the body.

Researchers say the best way to cope is to cut back on caffeine, avoid bright light if possible, including computer screens in the evening, and try going to bed 15 minutes earlier starting Friday night.

Also eat a healthy breakfast and head outside to catch some sunlight. These things will enable your body to naturally sync to the change in the environment, which may lessen your chance of adverse health issues come Monday morning.

This is also the weekend you are being reminded to change the batteries in your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.

The major Canadian exception is most of Saskatchewan, which is on standard time year-round.

Standard time returns to all of Canada on Nov. 4.
