Police launch March Break road safety campaign

With thousands of kids off for the March Break and people still adjusting to the time change, Toronto police kicked off a safety blitz aimed at drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The traffic services safety campaign, called March Break, March Safe, started Monday and wraps up on Sunday. Police are urging motorists to use extra caution, especially in areas with kids and seniors. Authorities are also reminding pedestrians and cyclists to obey traffic signals and be alert when out on the roads.

More kids on the roads isn’t the only issue plaguing drivers: a study out of McMaster University suggests there is a 17 per cent increase in collisions Monday after Daylight Savings Time, which began at 2 a.m. Sunday.
