Two family members charged in Poonam Litt’s death

Peel police say two family members of Poonam Litt are facing charges in connection with her murder.

35-year-old Mandeep Punia, Litt’s sister-in-law, has been charged with second-degree murder.

The victim’s father-in-law, 63-year-old Kulwant Singh Litt, has been charged with accessory after the fact.

It is alleged the victim was killed by Punia on Wednesday February 4th, 2009. Investigators are withholding the occurrence location and cause of death pending further investigation.

The Brampton woman’s remains were found in a wooded area of Caledon in February of this year.

Family members reported to police that Litt was last seen leaving her home on February 5, 2009 and that she was headed to her job at a dental office at Torbram Road and Bovaird Drive, a 20-minute walk from her home. Her boss raised the alarm when she never showed.

Her husband, who was in India with his mother at the time, offered a $25,000 reward for anyone with information on her disappearance.

Litt had a two-year-old daughter and was pregnant with her second child at the time.
