Mayor Rob Ford will be getting his official invitation this week to attend this year’s Pride Toronto festivities.
Last year, Ford didn’t attend any of the Pride events, saying his family has a tradition of spending the Canada Day weekend up at their cottage.
Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday, meanwhile, says Ford should attend Pride, which begins June 22 and ends July 1, because it’s a public event and not attending will open him up to criticism.
The mayor was criticized by activists and councillors for not taking part in the annual Pride parade, which other mayors including David Miller and Mel Lastman did in the past.
Ford had previously said that, depending on his schedule, he would attend the Pride events if possible.
