Wind warning ended for Toronto

Environment Canada has ended its wind warning for the city of Toronto.

“The warning has ended, but it is still going to be windy through the night tonight,” said CityNews meteorologist Adam Stiles.

“A wind warning requires forecast wind gusts at 90 km/h or higher. We will still be in the range of 60-80 km/h winds for the next few hours.  Minor wind damage is still possible, in the form of tree limbs coming down and isolated hydro outages. “

The warning has also ended for Pickering, Oshawa and Southern Durham Region.

The gusty conditions were wreaking havoc around Toronto Monday night. A pane of glass came loose from the 30th floor of the Pantages Hotel as a result of high winds.

“It was a very high potential for hazard for the public down below,” said Sgt. John Margenson, Toronto Police.

In addition, a tree was knocked over on Farleigh Avenue, in the Dufferin and Eglinton area. There were also trees knocked down on Kennedy Avenue, Woodbine near Danforth and Bloor and Runnymede.
