OPP searching for missing plane that failed to land at Buttonville

Police are searching for any sign of a four-seat airplane from Quebec that failed to arrive at the Buttonville Airport on Monday evening, the OPP says.

The plane, piloted by a 61-year-old man, was supposed to arrive at 11 p.m. from Saint-Mathieu de Beloeil, but failed to land at the airport in Markham. Its last known co-ordinates were around 11:30 p.m. in the general area of County Road 25 and County Road 35, south of Hastings, Ont., which is east of Peterborough.

The OPP is carrying out a ground-level search of the area with the assistance of its Emergency Response Team. Also, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., has a helicopter on scene conducting a search from the sky.

Police are asking for the public’s help in narrowing their search. Anyone who heard the low-flying airplane is asked to contact them at 888-310-1122.
