New Ontario Science Centre circus exhibit teaches kids math & more

“The greatest show on earth” has pitched its tent in Toronto for an innovative exhibit that uses the magic and wonder of the circus to teach kids science.
On Wednesday, the Ontario Science Centre launched Circus! The Exhibition, which explores big top acts through a scientist’s eye.
“It’s a fabulous exhibition,” said science centre CEO Lesley Lewis.
“We’re learning about science through the circus because most people find the circus irresistible. I do.”
Children learn how contortionists fit into tiny spaces, decipher the mathematical sequences involved in juggling and follow the path of a 22-inch blade down a sword-swallower’s throat.
In one of the interactive exhibits, kids walk a high wire and figure out how poles help tightrope walkers balance.
The show has toured North America since the Ontario Science Centre developed it in 2001.
Circus! The Exhibition runs until Sept. 3 and is free with admission.
