John Edwards case ends in mistrial

A North Carolina Judge ruled a mistrial in the campaign corruption case of former U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Thursday.

Edwards was acquitted on one count of accepting illegal campaign contributions. The judge declared a mistrial on five other counts after the jury was deadlocked.

It was alleged that during his 2008 presidential run he used money from two wealthy donors to cover up an affair and the pregnancy of his mistress.

Edwards maintained his innocence throughout the trial.

“There is no one else responsible for my sins. I am responsible,” he said outside the courthouse.
