Toronto breaks heat record, severe thunderstorm watch ends

Under an extreme heat alert issued by the city, Toronto broke yet another weather record as the temperature soared above 36 C at Pearson airport on Tuesday.
That broke the previous record of 35.2 C, set last year.
With the humidity, it feels like the mid-40s, Environment Canada warned in a humidex advisory.
Meanwhile, the GTA and much of southern Ontario remained under a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm watch for Toronto has been lifted.
The storms could produce large hail, powerful winds, torrential downpours and lightning, the agency said. Environment Canada had issued tornado warnings for eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, but those warnings have since been lifted.
