Elvis Stojko to perform at CNE Saturday

TORONTO, Ont. – Those visiting the CNE on Saturday will get an icy treat, as three-time figure skating champion and now retired Elvis Stojko will perform.

Plenty has changed since Stojko retired. In 2006, the two-time Olympic silver medallist moved to Mexico. He is also married and competes as a cart racer.

“It is very competitive,” he told 680News. “Some of these guys have won world championship titles. I’ve been only doing it for technically about seven months, but I’m picking it up fast.”

In addition to his CNE date, he has two shows planned at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre on September 14 and 15, called ‘Land of the Eternals.’

“There’s no ice involved,” he explained. “It’s actually a stage show with a figure skate booth and it’s called a pick blade chassis. Basically we can almost do everything we can on the ice and we’re doing it onstage off the ice.”

Stojko will play the dark warrior, or as he labels it “the bad guy” in the show.
