Man dies after beating with crowbar

A 59-year-old man has died after he was beaten with a crowbar earlier this week in Vaughan.

Police say they found the victim with critical injuries after they were called to a home on Michelle Drive, near Highway 7 and Weston Road, around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The man was taken to hospital and died on Wednesday afternoon.

A 29-year-old man arrested at the house was originally charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Police say his charges will likely be upgraded to second-degree murder when he appears in a Newmarket court on Friday.

Police are withholding the name of the accused to protect the victim’s identity.
