Microsoft launches Window 8 OS, Surface tablet

Microsoft Corp. has launched its latest operating system (OS), Windows 8, which boasts a new user interface that runs on both personal computers (PC) and tablets.

The company kicked off a campaign for its new OS, its biggest overhaul in years, at an event Friday in New York City where it  also launched its Surface PC tablet. That also runs on Windows 8 and starts at $519.

The operating system is available online and through participating retailers in 140 countries and 37 languages.

Windows 8 is available online for existing PCs for $14.99-$39.99 in Canada. It’s available in two versions for consumers, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise for business customers at participating retail stores.
