Inside 680News: Jaime Pulfer

1. What’s the most memorable news story you’ve covered?
This is a difficult one, but, the story that still stands out in my mind is one that I covered as a new reporter back on a foggy morning near Windsor on September 3, 1999.  An 87-vehicle crash on the 401 triggered by thick fog with near-zero visibility. When the fog lifted, the devastation became very clear. Charred vehicles, some melted right into the highway.

I had never seen anything like it before and remember having to push down my fear so I could go and cover the story. I remember talking to people who attribute their lives being saved to the brave few who stood at the side of the road urgently waving them off the highway and into a nearby field.

Seven people died that day, more than 40 others injured.

2. What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are wide ranging. I have caught the thrifting bug recently. I love combing through thrift stores and finding incredible deals.  I’ve found so many big-ticket items that my co-workers keep telling me I need to start a blog.

My other passion is ballet. I just started taking classes this year at The National Ballet School after a 15 year hiatus. I didn’t realize how much I missed ballet, it really centres me.

3. Favourite place visited and why?
Fiji. I travelled halfway around the world, crossed the international dateline and it was totally worth it!!!

It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.

4. What would your last meal on earth be?
I guess the calories wouldn’t be an issue right??? Haha!

I would have to say “The Vatican City” from The Burger’s Priest. It’s insanely decadent.

5. Favourite book you’ve read in last 12 months?

The Wisdom of Psychopaths by: Kevin Dutton.

(I know…seems strange but, it’s an eye-opener).

6. If you’d have another career, what would it be?
Marine biologist. I love sharks!

7. Do you like/drink coffee or tea?
Tea hands down, which is strange considering I wake up at 3:30am!

I’m obsessed with David’s Tea lately. I recommend you check out: “Sleigh Ride” and “Chocolate Chili Chai”.

8. What you like about 680News?
I love the sense of urgency and the passion of the people here at 680News.

9. Pets?
I am a new dog-mom!!!! My fiance and I rescued a German Shepherd/Black Lab mix from The Humane Society almost a year ago. Her name is “Zada” (which means “lucky one”)  I love her personality, she is hilarious and makes me laugh everyday!

10. Which living person do you most admire?
My parents!!! (I know corny answer right???) My mom and I talk ALL the time and she tells me like it is whether I want to hear it or not. My dad is adorable and the funniest person I know!!!
