Google Maps app returns to iPhone

Google’s map app has returned to the iPhone, three months after Apple replaced the app with its own inferior software.

The Google Maps iPhone app was released Wednesday night.

When the iPhone 5 launched in September, Apple CEO Tim Cook praised the Apple-designed Maps app, which he said would rival Google Maps.

But the app didn’t perform to expectations and the man in charge of the project was fired.

Cook later apologized for the app and encouraged iPhone users to access Google Maps using a mobile browser.

Google said Wednesday the new app was “designed from the ground up.”

It features voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation; live traffic conditions to avoid the jams; and public transit information.
