Roommate charged in escort’s 2011 murder

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested the roommate of a young escort who was found dead in Caledon in 2011.

Christopher Andronakos, 35, was charged with second-degree murder in Calgary on Wednesday. He will be returned to Ontario to face the charge.

Kera Freeland, 20, who was also known as Kera Gray, was found dead on Heart Lake Road in the region northwest of Toronto on March 17, 2011. She was working for an escort agency at the time.

Freeland was originally from Alberta and had moved to Toronto in 2010, where she and Andronakos were roommates.

Freeland was pregnant when she died, OPP confirmed earlier this month.

It was likely that Freeland was killed elsewhere and her body was then dumped in a ditch, Det. Insp. Chris Gilpin said on Jan. 7.

Police said she was likely killed on or around Jan. 16, 2011, the day she was reported missing.

The cause of death has not been released.
