Suspects sought in Whitby apartment shooting

Durham police are searching for suspects after five young people were wounded in a shooting in the elevator of a Whitby apartment building on Thursday.
Four men, including a 19-year-old who remains in critical condition in a Toronto hospital, were shot and a fifth, a 17-year-old boy, was hit by shrapnel.
The shooting happened on White Oaks Court, near Dundas and Brock streets, around 12:30 p.m.
The other victims – two 19-year-old men from Toronto and a 17 year old – suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated in hospital.
Police told 680News that the men entered the building and rode the elevator up to the third floor.
When the elevator doors opened, a gunman or multiple gunmen opened fire. The shooter or shooters had likely been waiting in the hallway, police said.
The victims managed to close the elevator doors and continued to the seventh floor, where they exited the elevator and called for help.
Police believe the shooting was targeted.
Residents in the building have been co-operating with the investigation, police said.
Police are looking for three or four suspects but have not released descriptions.
