University subway line shut down Sunday

A portion of the Yonge-University-Spadina line will be closed Sunday due to signal work.

The TTC says it is modernizing signalling equipment that was installed when the route opened 50 years ago.

Starting Saturday night at midnight, trains will turn back at St. George and Union stations while crews work on signals, relays and wiring and cabling.

To serve TTC passengers, shuttle buses will run every three to five minutes, and the TTC will also station Wheel-Trans buses at Bathurst, Eglinton West and Union stations.

The subway will shut down between Union and St. George stations at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. Regular subway service will resume at 6 a.m. Monday.

The Yonge portion of the line will have full service between Finch and Union stations.

Shuttle bus route:

  • Southbound from St. George station: south on Bedford Road, east on Bloor Street, south on Queen’s Park, south on University Avenue, east on King Street, north on Church Street, west on Richmond Street, south on Victoria Street, east on Adelaide Street to northbound routing.
  • Northbound from Adelaide Street: south on Church, west on King, north on University, north on Queen’s Park, west on Bloor, north on St. George Street to St. George station entrance.
