TD Bank’s Internet services under cyberattack

TD Bank confirms to CityNews it was the victim of a cyberattack on Thursday.

Online and Internet services were affected by a distributed-denial-of-service attack, which prevented customers from accessing online banking and Internet services, spokeswoman Barbara Timmins told CityNews in an email.

The attack, which began mid-morning, overwhelms and floods the servers with so many requests that people trying to access the site legitimately can’t.

Internet services are intermittent for Canadian and U.S. customers. But they can still bank by phone, going to a branch or using the ATM machines.

It was only a service distribution issue, so no accounts or security were breached, Timmins said.

The bank is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, she said.
