Dellen Millard to face murder charge in Tim Bosma’s death

Missing Ancaster man Tim Bosma has been found dead and a man in custody in connection to his disappearance will be charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday, Hamilton police say.

“Tim was murdered,” Det. Sgt. Matt Kavanagh said during a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.  “He was taken to a location in Waterloo, where his body was burned beyond recognition….This is now a homicide investigation.”

Bosma, a 32-year-old husband and father of a two-year-old daughter, disappeared May 6 after taking two men for a test drive of his truck which he had posted for sale online.

Police say the cause of his death hasn’t yet been determined.

Dellen Millard, 27, was arrested and charged on Saturday with forcible confinement and theft over $5,000 in connection with Bosma’s disappearance. He will be charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday morning in a Hamilton court, Kavanagh said.

Police said they are looking for at least two more suspects in the case, and are executing search warrants on two properties in the Waterloo Region owned by Millard, and on three vehicles in Hamilton.

“Video evidence that we have now recovered shows that when Mr. Bosma’s vehicle left his residence, there was a second vehicle following. We do not know at this time how many people were in that second vehicle. So right now we are looking at at least three (suspects), possibly more,” Kavanagh said.

Kavanagh said he believes Bosma “died shortly after he was abducted,” but hasn’t determined a motive in the case.

Millard, whose father ran Millard Air in Breslau, Ont., until his death in December, gained fame for flying solo in a helicopter at the age of 14 in 1999.

Police said Bosma’s family has asked for privacy and would not be speaking with reporters. But one family friend, Peter Lowe, posted on the official Find Tim Bosma Facebook page, “The agony in this house is indescribable. There will be no further updates from this page. My prayers are with this wonderful family.”

After Bosma disappeared last week, police focused their efforts on tracking down his truck and the two men last seen with him.

Police also confirmed Tuesday that Bosma’s Dodge Ram pickup truck has been located in Kleinburg, Ont., in a trailer owned by Dellen Millard’s business.  It was found on Sunday at the home of Madeleine Millard, the mother of the accused, but Kavanagh said she has “no involvement or knowledge in this case.”
