The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing a two-car crash in Brampton that sent two men to hospital.
A Peel police cruiser and a van collided in the middle of the intersection at McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway just before noon on Tuesday.
Officials say the cruiser was travelling eastbound on McLaughlin and the van was headed northbound on Sandalwood when the crash occurred.
The 50-year-old driver of the van was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The 41-year-old passenger in the van was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A female officer suffered only minor injuries and did not require treatment.
The SIU said police were responding to a call at the time of the crash.
The intersection was shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
The SIU probes cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
