Budget Blinds being recalled over chord strangulation risk

Vertical blinds made by Budget Blinds Mfg. Ltd. are being voluntarily recalled because their exposed looped operating cords pose a strangulation hazard, Health Canada says.

“Young children may pull looped cords around their neck,” the agency said Thursday.

Health Canada and the Edmonton-based manufacturer have received no reports of incidents or injuries related to the blinds’ use.

About 375 of the recalled custom blinds were sold in Canada from April 2009 until this past February.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blinds and contact Budget Blinds Mfg. to arrange for a repair of the product.

For additional information, consumers may contact Budget Blinds at 780-488-8383.

The recall does not cover blinds sold by Budget Blinds Inc., which is based out of California but which also has Canadian locations.
