Igor brand Gorgonzola cheese recall expanded

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded its Igor brand Gorgonzola Cheese recall to include more products.

The federal agency said the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

All lot codes and best before dates of the following cheese products are affected by the recall.

  • Gorgonzola Dolce (1.5 kg, UPC 2443880 014541)
  • Gorgonzola Piccante (1.5 kg, UPC unknown)
  • Gorgonzola Dolce DOP (200 g, UPC 8 021398 256802)

The CFIA said the Italian-made cheese may have also been cut and wrapped into smaller packages by some retailers.

This product was distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan, but the CFIA said it may have been distributed in other provinces.

There are no reported illnesses linked to eating the cheese, which was imported by Berchicci Importing Ltd. of Montreal.

Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but it can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
