2-million dehumidifiers recalled due to fire risk

Canada is included in a global recall of over two-million dehumidifiers because of a concern they’ll catch fire.

Health Canada and the U.S. Product Safety Commission say 80 different dehumidifiers are affected between that cost between $110 and $400 each, and includes brands like Danby, Sunrise and Frigidaire.

They were all manufactured in China, and includes 52,000 in Canada sold between August 2008 and August 2013.

Health Canada said the products can overheat, smoke or catch fire. There have been 165 incidents reported in the U.S. but none in Canada.

People are advised to stop using the dehumidifiers as soon as possible. The recall service provider Stericycle can be contacted at 1-866-853-2802. More details are available on the Government of Canada’s recall website.
