Liberal Kim Craitor resigns Niagara Falls seat

Liberal MPP Kim Craitor is resigning his seat in Niagara Falls.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says Craitor is stepping down immediately.

Craitor was first elected in 2003 and was a municipal politician before entering provincial politics.

“I thank him for his service and wish him luck in his future endeavours,” Wynne said in a statement.

Craitor was known for not always toeing the party line, including skipping the final vote on contentious legislation forcing new contracts on public school teachers.

“While it is never a good time to leave, after ten very productive and rewarding years, now I need to put my health and family first,” he said in a statement.

Wynne said a byelection to fill the vacancy will be called within the next six months.
