Author Tom Clancy, 66, dies

Author Tom Clancy, known for espionage and military science storylines, has died at the age of 66.

The cause of death was not immediately available.

Clancy was known for writing meticulous thrillers focusing on political intrigue, and military tactics and technology.

He published 28 books, a number of which – like The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games – were turned into blockbuster films. He has one novel yet to be released.

Seventeen of his novels appeared on the New York Times best-sellers list, many reaching the top spot.

Clancy’s writing gained him a loyal following within the armed forces, both in the U.S. and abroad. Those fans gave him inside access that frequently informed the plots of his books.
