Toronto, Austin mayors ink music city alliance deal

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell have signed a city alliance agreement which they say is the first of its kind.

“This alliance will allow us to work together in developing mutually beneficial partnerships between our two music-centred cities with a clear purpose to build trade, commerce and share both government and private industry knowledge,” Leffingwell said in a release on Friday.

The two cities will work collaboratively to develop and expand their artists, festivals and studios.

Ford, several Toronto councillors and members of Toronto’s music industry were in Austin, Texas, beginning Wednesday for a two-day trip to learn about Texan city, which has become known as the Live Music Capital of the World.

The trip will help Toronto in its goal of positioning the city as a leading live music tourist destination, the city said in the release.
