Hwy. 12 reopens after fatal Port Perry crash

One woman is dead and Highway 12 was shut down for several hours after a head-on collision in Port Perry on Tuesday morning.

The collision happened north of Scugog Line 3, south of the Highway 12/7A split, around 6:10 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police say the driver of a red Chevrolet Cavalier was heading north when she went into the southbound lanes, colliding with a tractor-trailer.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured, but his vehicle was damaged.

The highway was reopened around 1:30 p.m., OPP say.
