Scarborough playground to reopen after fire

The playground at Mary Shadd Public School in Scarborough will reopen on Tuesday after it burned to the ground this spring.

Parents at the school had raised $20,000 for the initial playground, but on May 6, it was completely destroyed. Toronto police have arrested three people in the arson investigation.

The vandalism resulted in an outpouring of support from the community, including local businesses, and $75,000 was raised for the new kindergarten play structure.

It will officially reopen at 1:30 p.m. and kindergarten students will celebrate with a song.
