Woman in hospital after Bloor & Lansdowne fire

A 66-year-old woman was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after an early-morning house fire near Bloor Street and Lansdowne Avenue.

Two other people, a young couple, were treated at the scene.

The fire began on St. Helens Avenue around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

While there were three smoke detectors in the home, none of them were working, fire officials said.

Several animals were rescued but many more were killed in the fire.

The fire was started by candles in the basement, officials said.
