Prosecutor in NY, son of Judge Judy, helps pay for defence of friend after recusing himself

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The son of TV’s Judge Judy, himself a district attorney in suburban New York, has helped pay for the defence of a close friend accused of child rape.

Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy issued a statement Friday saying he helped pay for a lawyer when his friend’s funds ran out. Levy had recused himself from the case earlier.

The defendant is Levy’s former personal trainer. Levy has described him as a close friend and frequent houseguest of his family.

Levy’s statement did not address ethical issues. A publicist says he won’t comment further.

The Westchester County district attorney’s office, which is prosecuting the case because Levy recused himself, would not comment.

The sheriff has accused Levy of interfering in the prosecution. Levy has sued the sheriff.

Levy is the son of Judy Sheindlin.
