Markham high school caretaker accused of sex offences

A caretaker at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School in Markham is accused of several sex offences involving female students, York police say.

On Dec. 5, police were dispatched to the high school following reports that a staff member had ongoing communications of a sexual nature with students.

It’s alleged that four female students were engaged in text message conversations with the caretaker. The messages began as casual conversation but became sexual in nature with two of the girls aged 17.

On Dec. 13, Mathew Zeck, 42, of Whitchurch-Stouffville, was charged with sexual exploitation, luring a child, making sexually explicit material available to a child and sex assault.

Investigators believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Zeck made a court appearance on Thursday, and was released with conditions. His next court date is Jan. 31, 2014.
