2 injured in Dundas & Sherbourne apartment fire

Two people were injured during a fire at a downtown apartment building early on Thursday morning.

The fire began in a seventh-floor unit at Dundas and Sherbourne streets around 5:20 a.m. The fire was knocked down before 6 a.m.

Paramedics told 680News that one of the victims, a security guard, was assessed at the scene and refused to go to hospital. The other person, believed to be the occupant of the unit, was taken to hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire or the cost of the damage.

“The guys are looking at it now,” Platoon Chief Colin Reid told CityNews.

“We don’t know for sure but there’s a suggestion it may have been careless smoking. It’s still under investigation.”
