Man dead in Brampton house fire

A man has died after he was pulled from a house fire in Brampton on Friday morning.

He was pronounced dead in hospital.

Two boys, believed to be the man’s sons, are being treated for minor injuries.

The fire began on Goodwood Road, near Queen Street and Bramalea Road, around 6:30 a.m.

It was a neighbour who called 911 and then ran to rescue the family, breaking down the back door to allow the children to get out.

“It was my understanding that the neighbour was out walking when he saw the fire … and heard the boys banging on the back door. He got the boys out quickly,” Brampton fire chief Andy MacDonald said.

The man was “overcome” by smoke, MacDonald said, and was pulled from the home.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but it may have started on the main floor of the bungalow.
