Mickey the Lobster dies while waiting for a flight to the Maritimes

A tweet from a St. Catharines humane society says Mickey the Lobster has died.

The one-pound crustacean had been found alive in a box in the parking lot of a St. Catharines restaurant early on Wednesday.

The Lincoln County Humane Society had hoped to send the lobster back to the East Coast where they say he probably originated.

Mickey had offers for a lift home from three passengers flying to the Maritimes. The plan was to return him to the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the tweet, he died in peace and quiet overnight and the group’s Facebook page said they found him lifeless in his tank this morning.

“The stress of his ordeal was likely too much.,” the humane society added.
