Mother of 4 killed in east-end shooting

Two men are in custody facing first-degree murder charges after a woman was shot and killed in the city’s east end Saturday night.

Andrea White, 33, was in the garage of her townhouse on Forest Creek Pathway—near Morningside and Old Finch avenues—with family and friends when she was hit by gunfire from a passing SUV.

In a news conference on Sunday afternoon, Det. Dave Dickinson said around 11 p.m., the white Land Rover drove south past the house, pulled a U-turn and drove up to the house again.

Someone inside the car fired a gun through the passenger window.

“We believe the address was targeted but I don’t have a motive for the shooting,” Dickinson said.

Toronto EMS said White had been shot several times, but Dickinson wouldn’t confirm that fact.

Family and friends helped the wounded mother of four into the house, where she soon collapsed and died.

Right after the shooting, the OPP tracked the SUV west on Highway 401.

Officers tried to pull the car over around Avenue Road but the driver refused to stop.

He drove north on Bathurst Street and ditched the vehicle, and both suspects fled on foot.

Michael Davani, 21, was arrested after a short foot-chase. Alwayne Bigby — a 23-year-old former U.S. college basketball player — surrendered around 5:30 a.m. Both face first-degree murder charges and are due in court on Monday.

Dickinson said White lived on Forest Creek with her common-law husband for 10 years and had no criminal record.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 42 Division at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
