Mayor Ford spotted in cottage country

Mayor Rob Ford mingled with residents and posed for pictures in cottage country on Friday while debate continued to rage about the status of his rehab stint.

Broddy Lisle told CityNews he ran into the embattled politician outside a bank in Bracebridge, and that Ford spoke candidly about his recovery efforts.

“We asked about his rehab and he said it’s been going good and he’s done two weeks and he’s got six more weeks to go,” he said. “And he said he feels good about himself and he’s lost a few pounds and he seemed pretty happy.”

Wynne Honsinger, who tweeted photos of Ford, also posted on Twitter that Ford was talking with other people on the street and telling people rehab was going well.

An employee at a nearby Gravenhurst dry cleaner says Ford stopped in on Friday to get a suit cleaned. He then posed for photos which have been shared via social media.

Coun. Doug Ford, said he didn’t know if the mayor is in Bracebridge, telling CityNews “your guess is as good as mine.” As far as being out of rehab, “the answer is no,” Coun. Ford said. “They are allowed to go out unsupervised.”

CityNews spoke to a rehab facility in cottage country that said they do allow patients to leave for business matters with an escort.

Dennis Morris, Ford’s lawyer, reiterated to CityNews on Friday that the mayor is in rehabilitation. He added that Ford is an in-patient who is permitted to leave the premises.

The ford family cottage is in the Bracebridge area.

Ford left Toronto City Hall on April 30 after another video surfaced showing him smoking what appears to be crack and an audio file of the mayor swearing and making disparaging remarks about gay people, Coun. Karen Stintz and his wife.

Last week, a doctor at a rehab facility confirmed to the CBC that Ford was there seeking treatment.
