St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School in Woodbridge was under a hold-and-secure for much of the school day on Friday after police got a tip late Thursday that something threatening could happen there during its carnival.
“We know that a call came in through Crime Stoppers late last night that indicated that there could be violent action at the school today,” York Catholic District School Board Supt. Michael Masello told CityNews.
But he said no names or targets were mentioned.
“That’s prompted a lot of precautionary action on the part of police and the school,” Masello said, adding there was an active police investigation at the school by Weston and Davos roads.
The school, which was informed of the situation first thing Friday morning, cancelled its carnival, a fun day for students with a BBQ and fundraising activities.
Classes were in session but the school was placed in hold-and-secure until about 2 p.m.
Masello said he’s aware of the Twitter activity which alleges students at Father Bressani Catholic High School threatened Brebeuf students saying they’d bring guns to carnival.
“We’re following it but we don’t have any facts,” Masello said.
