Man charged in Jane & Eglinton double-shooting, 2nd suspect sought

A 25-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a double-shooting that left one man dead and another with serious injuries.

Olatoyebi Waheed, 24, and his 23-year-old passenger were shot by a lone gunman in another vehicle while they were stopped at a red light at Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West, according to investigators.

Waheed was found without vital signs behind the wheel of this grey Nissan car that had crashed into a tree shortly before 7 p.m. An autopsy concluded the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. He was the city’s 26th homicide victim.

Franklin Afrifa was arrested on Sunday after police executed two search warrants at two residential addresses in Toronto.

Afrifa has also been charged with attempted murder.

Police say they are also searching for a second suspect.

Benard Asante, also known as Benard Kissi, 24, is wanted by police for the same offences.

He is described as black, approximately five-foot-five-inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. He has his hair in cornrows.

Police say Asante is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
