A soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa was shot and killed on Wednesday.
Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, 24, from Hamilton’s Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, died after a gunman, identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, opened fire.
Heavily armed tactical officers descended on the area. Below are a series of photos depicting the chaotic and frightening situation.
