New Year’s brawl on GO Train caught on video

Instead of kisses and champagne bubbles some rowdy Go Train riders celebrated the new year with a fist-flying rumble.
The melee, which was caught on video, started when two women began arguing. Soon a man intervened, sparking a chain reaction of profanity, amateur wrestling and a few innocuous swats.
Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins says about 10 people were involved in the 2:30 a.m. brawl early on January 1st.
“There were lots of fisticuffs and people falling all over the place and it was clear they had been drinking heavily,” she told CityNews.
“There weren’t any injuries, there were no weapons, no serious threats. It was just a bit of a brawl and we ensured that everybody got off the train.”
Transit safety officers were on the train at the time and they rushed to the ruckus when someone pressed the safety bar.
The main participants were arrested and cuffed, but later released at Rouge Hill station without charge.
