WB 401 express lanes reopen after tractor trailer rollover

The westbound express lanes of Highway 401 at Highway 404 have reopened – five hours after a tractor trailer rolled over just as the evening rush was getting underway on Monday.

According to the OPP, the transport truck was travelling southbound on the 404 onramp to the westbound 401 just before 4 p.m. when it flipped.

“As it came around that ramp it looks like it flipped over and dropped down onto the 401 express lanes in the westbound side and that’s where it lays now,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told 680News.

The westbound 401 express lanes were closed from the 404 to Bayview Avenue.

Schmidt said at least two other vehicles were involved in the crash after the 18-wheeler landed on the 401, but no serious injuries have been reported.

“Fortunately there’s no serious injuries with the truck driver or the other vehicles involved,” he said.

Schmidt confirmed on Tuesday that speed was a factor in the crash.
