A suspect in the shooting death of a man outside the Marriott hotel near Bay and Dundas streets earlier this month turned himself in to police early Saturday morning.
Toronto police say Mohamud Abdwali Dirie, 25, surrendered at 1:05 a.m. and has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kabil Abdulkhadir.
Dirie was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Saturday morning.
Abdulkhadir was with friends when he was shot and killed around 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 9.
Police said the suspect arrived on scene in a rented blue Elantra. After the shooting the vehicle fled southbound on Bay Street.
A second suspect has also been arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Investigators are also searching for a third suspect, Hassan Abdulle, 20. He’s a friend of Abdulkhadir’s who police believe shot at the vehicle as the suspect was fleeing the scene.
Last week the victim’s heartbroken family members pleaded for those who were with Abdulkhadir on the night of his death to come forward and help police find his killer.
Police said Dirie is the younger brother of Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie who was killed in a double shooting at a condo on Lisgar Street in June. Police would not say if the two incidents are connected.
