A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for viciously assaulting and robbing a TTC bus driver last year.
Adedotun Agunbiade was accused of punching the driver in the head and face when he was unable to get a transfer at Yonge Street and Queen’s Quay on Dec. 17. The operator put his hand on the transfers after the man tried to grab one.
The man kicked the operator as he fell to the floor, and then stole his wallet and cell phone.
Toronto police were able to identify Agunbiade through security camera footage on the bus. He was charged with assault causing bodily harm and robbery.
He was sentenced to time served, plus an additional six months for each offence. He was also placed on probation for two years, and ordered to stay off TTC property and vehicles for two years, and to stay away from the victim. He was also fined $400.
The TTC says at least one of its employees is assaulted or threatened every day.
