This Blue Jays pennant race has been interrupted by flooding.
This weekend’s series loss to the Boston Red Sox was costly not only in the American League standings, but to a bathroom in the 500s of Rogers Centre, where apparently a Jays fan had pulled a children’s urinal off the wall around the sixth inning of Friday’s game, causing an enormous flood.
And what’s better, according to Globe and Mail sports writer Cathal Kelly, the fan was half-naked. “The wrong half.”
Further investigation determined that the fan was well-lubricated with alcohol, and the mess may have been an accident rather than an impromptu fit of rage during the Jays’ 6-1 win.
All of this made us wonder if the Jays’ recent playoff chase had actually escalated boorish behaviour at the stadium, where once it simply wasn’t safe to bring young fans without earplugs and blindfolds.
Has the pennant race improved fan behaviour or escalated bad behaviour by Jays fans? Was this weekend’s flood indicative of the fan experience at Rogers Centre, or an exception to the rule?
